Many of you have reached out to us to find out how you can keep your home and belongings clean in order to protect you and your loved ones from COVID-19 and future viruses. With disinfectants still difficult to find in the stores and online, we thought you might benefit from learning about the products we use at the office as well as at home.
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is not only on the EPA list of disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), but it is also very safe and very effective. HOCl is naturally produced in the body and used in wound care. Pure&Clean and Chlorfexis are two online retailers that we have purchased HOCl from.
In our office, we use this as the second step in a 2-step disinfection process, even though our first step has been proven effective against COVID-19 amongst other bacteria and viruses. What can we say? We want only the best for our patients.
At home, we would recommend that you use this at a concentration of 200ppm, a level where HOCl is certified as a no-rinse sanitizer for food contact surfaces. Dr. Cohen also cleans his groceries with a 50-100ppm solution.
Fogging is an effective means of cleaning because the disinfectant is able to get into the nooks and crannies that is not usually accessible with simple wiping. Most of the foggers for sale are large and made for commercial/industrial use. Dr. Cohen found the above fogger on Amazon and uses it daily at home on his groceries and packages.
For those of you who don’t want to purchase gallons of disinfectant, we will have some small bottles of HOCl to pick up at your next cleaning appointment (while supplies last!). This is great to keep in your car, in your purse, or in your stroller for cleaning on the go.
